Beautifully designed Birth Affirmations by We the Parents

Magical Baby Moments Hypnobirthing Course teaches its expectant parents about the benefits of using positive birth statements. Positive birth affirmations are an effective way of keeping focused and in the right mindset. They are a powerful way to train your mind to move out of the way of your body; to let nature take its course. Many women who had their minds in the right space created smoother, shorter and less challenging labour experiences than women who hadn’t known about affirmations.

Sadly, my creativity skills stopped around the time I passed the pre-schooler age! So when We the Parents got in touch with their stunning poster, I couldn’t not share it.

Here’s a beautiful and complete list of positive birthing affirmations, aggregated from different sources, for you to use so you can get on with feeling calm and prepared for your incredible labour and birth.

The Power of Hypnobirthing book is free to download on your Kindle for a limited time. Get your copy now!

If you’ve heard about hypnobirthing, but you’re not quite sure what it’s about and whether it is right for you, then download this newly published book by Christine Huntingford, founder of Magical Baby Moments, who has written this book to explain how every single mother (and her birth partner) can enable a better birth experience by learning hypnobirthing.

The Power of Hypnobirthing – 10 reasons why it’s for you does what it says on the tin; it outlines 10 concrete reasons how learning hypnobirthing will empower the expectant mum and her birth partner to enter labour and birth with positivity and calm confidence.

Why was this book written?

Christine herself benefited from hypnobirthing when she was pregnant with both of her children and decided to become a teacher in 2015; to spread the word to expectant mums in her community in Romford, Essex.

Here we are in 2017 and hypnobirthing is still not mainstream – and she wants to change that.

Why? Because mothers who have used it in labour have often found their birth experiences, calm, relaxed and positive.

How? By understanding the process of labour, asserting her preferences with her caregivers, so that she had the right birth experience for her and her baby.

This is not to say that hypnobirthing only advocates natural births without pain relief, in fact hypnobirthing works for all mothers for whichever pregnancy she is on (first or fifth!) and for whatever outcome her journey plays out on the day. Mothers who are planning a Caesarean Section can also benefit from the power of hypnobirthing tools and techniques.
If you’re looking for a relaxed birth and one that you will look back on with positivity, download this book. It’s available to download for free, between 4-8 June, with Amazon.

If you prefer a paperback copy, you can pre order it via the Magical Baby Moments website.

9 natural techniques that can comfort you during labour

These 9 techniques can help you get through labour with less pain so you can truly enjoy the birth of your baby.

For some lucky women, labour is a breeze. For others, it can be uncomfortable and painful – but it doesn’t have to be. There are lots of ways to make yourself more comfortable during labour. Try these natural pain-relief techniques prior to labour, and you can try others as your labour progresses.

  1. Hypnobirthing
Women who have hypnobirthed agree that this is a non-invasive way to reduce muscle tension and pain in childbirth. Hypnobirthing is something you can learn and practice ahead of time so you’ll be comfortable using it in labour.

Breathing techniques help keep you relaxed and focus your attention and visualizing a beautiful scene in your mind, one that makes you feel safe and relaxed is also taught, so that you can focus your mind on this place when you have contractions.

Also saying your birth affirmations to yourself during this breathing will help maintain a positive mind.

  2. Massage
Have your partner massage your arms, legs, or back during labour to help you relax and to decrease tension and pain.
  3. Rocking/Birthing Ball
Time spent in a rocking chair, gently moving back and forth as you breathe and relax can help you relax during labour, or try bouncing gently on a birthing ball.
  4. Walking or Rocking
Walking, or even just pacing right by your bed, decreases discomfort while helping your contractions become stronger and more regular. Or you could try rocking back and forth with your partner while leaning on him.
  5. Changing Positions
Don’t stay in the same position for too long, and don’t lie flat on your back. Instead, try sitting up in your bed or a chair, lying on your side, squatting and rocking on a birthing ball, or leaning forward over the back of a chair or your birthing bed. If possible being mobile during labour helps your contractions progress.
  6. Being in or under water
Try sitting in a shower with a jet spray against your back, or lying in a whirlpool bath. Not all birthing centres or hospitals have a tub or shower in the room, so this is not always possible.
  7. TENS machine
A TENS machine sends electrical pulses (on your back) which are believed to prevent pain signals from reaching your brain and stimulate your body to release natural, feel-good substances (endorphins).
  8. Music
Make sure you have your favourite, relaxing songs on your phone, tablet, or laptop. Don’t forget your headphones or earbuds!
  9. Aromatherapy
Wonderful smells help you relax and feel better, so take fragrant lotion or potpourri for your room to give yourself a lift.

The important thing for now, is to do your homework. Find out all you can about your options, talk to your health care provider, and trust yourself to make the decisions that will work best for you and your baby.

The role of the birthing partner

Your birthing partner is one of the most important people involved in your birth. It’s so important to have someone there who you are confident that they will support you. It’s vital that your birthing partner is very clear about your hopes, feelings and preferences for the birth so that they are able to speak up for you if needed.

In most cases, the baby’s father will be the lucky one who gets to share this extraordinary moment, but you may also opt for your closest friend, your own mother or another member of the family. The important thing is that you choose someone you completely trust and with whom you are at ease with. They must also be a rock for you, should the going get tough. You may feel that you would like more than one person with you at the hospital. If so, explain the benefits of having someone there to give them support too, especially if the labour is long and he needs a break. It is also a good idea to organise a back-up in case for some reason your first choice is unavailable. Most close friends and relatives will jump at the chance of witnessing a new little miracle!

The birthing partner’s job is a very important one. The main responsibility he or she will have is to offer you complete support and encouragement and keep you as comfortable as possible during the labour and birth. You need someone who is prepared to respond to your every whim on the big day, and not be annoyed when you change your mind. Someone who is happy to pace the room with you or get down on the floor and try out all the different positions you have learned. It should be someone who won’t be offended if you get irritable or suddenly ask to be left alone; someone who will remain strong during difficult moments and be your rock. Finally, it has to be someone who can be your voice: represent your thoughts and feelings, and stand up for what you want if, during your labour, you are unable to do so yourself.

Your birthing partner will experience the whole amazing process, be the first to see your baby’s head emerging into the world (if they choose to look), and get the chance to cut the umbilical cord. It will also be their job to remain with your baby if you need medical attention or feel groggy after the birth, or if, for any reason, the baby needs to be taken out of the delivery room. Your birthing partner may have to endure quite a lot during the labour and birth, but all will be forgotten the moment they cuddle the beautiful baby for the very first time.
